AACA EASTERN DIVISIONAL TOUR                             by Lori Baronas

By the time you get this information there will be less than 1 month to go before the August AACA Tour.

On Wednesday, August 6th in the morning beginning at 10:00 AM, the AACA tour cars will be displayed at Shaker Village for a judging contest.  You may come on your own and pay the regular admission fee to Shaker Village and see the cars as well, even if you aren’t part of the tour.  Spending the day in the Berkshires might be a fun thing to do.

Then, in the evening on August 6th from 5 to 8 PM, the town of Pittsfield will be closing down ½ of North Street beginning north of Depot St.   Along this segment of the street there will be a cruise night with the AACA cars parked on the west side and local car clubs parked on the east side of the street.  The Pittsfield Piston Poppers will be working with our committee members to park cars.

There will be a band called “Memory Lane” in Persip Park along with a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream cart and other vendors.  The public is invited to participate in this event.  The 1908 Hatfield turns 100 years old this year and there will be a birthday party for the car with free cake.  You are invited to come and participate or at least see the beautiful cars.  Berkshire Bank has been instrumental in getting this event off the ground.  Bob Watkins and I made a trip to Pittsfield to work on this on June 3rd and I had a chance to walk the side streets and some of the architecture is incredible.  Berkshire Bank took over an old fire station and has converted it into office space, but you can still tell it was a fire station.

There has been a tremendous amount of work and many trips to and from the Pittsfield area by the tour committee members and I can’t thank you all enough for all you have done.  I’ve gotten many very positive phone calls from people planning to attend the meet and I’m sure everyone will be delighted with all your hard work.  I do hope you get to enjoy the tour and not just work 24/7.  I’ve also received a few phone calls of those who wanted to participate, but didn’t make the deadline.  Right now we have approx. 110 cars, 217 people, 21 trailer queens and 6 motor homes coming on the tour.

When you are listening to the radio, listen for Keith Korbut and Jerre Hoffman.  They made a trip to Pittsfield and were interviewed by Stephanie Abrams regarding the tour on the “Travel with Stephanie Abrams” show.  I thought I’d die when skinny dipping was mentioned, but we got over that quickly and onto the facts of the tour.

A GLANCE AT THE PAST

CVR member, Paul Hanson, recently sent your editor a booklet from a tour to Lake George, NY that CVR took in June 1966.  While the calendar of events was full for the 3-day tour, what caught your editor’s eye was the price tag associated with the event.  Reproduced to the left is an excerpt  from the brochure that related to pricing for the event.

It is also interesting to note that a bath with the room was optional.  Not in today’s world!
