HILDENE 2006                                                                   by Keith Korbut

The theme this year was water and did we get plenty!

We all got tired of the same old nice weather every weekend, so we decided to break up the monotony with a rain soaked weekend.  I have to say we have the greatest group of members who made the weekend a fun and pleasurable time in spite of the weather.

The rain did cut down on the show attendance but not the quality of cars.  Our club again took the attendance award thanks to Lori Baronas who gathered up the names.  I sure did miss Henry Kokoski bugging us for our registration numbers and Richard Philips telling us how many tractors he now has and what he did to them over the winter.  I also missed Clay Collins and his race car stories.  This year I missed Mary Kelly and her funny jokes.  I guess what I'm trying to say is I missed all those not there who made the weekends at Hildene.

Judy and I are doing it again next year.  So, I hope we can get our attendance up and make some more memories.

CVR’s MAY MEET—FOLLOW-UP, PIG ROAST, DEERFIELD, MA                                                                                   by Dotty Baronas

Sunday morning the sun shone brightly in anticipation for our CVR meet, encouraging us to bring out our antiques.  Unfortunately, Mother Nature was just teasing us and by the time we reached our final destination, the clouds opened up to a cold rain.

Sixty-one brave souls came out to enjoy a delicious homemade meal prepared by Henry Kocot and his crew.  Several members met early for coffee at Lori and Ray Baronas’ home in South Deerfield.  Stephanie and Mary Kokoski enjoyed feeding the fish and tried catching the frogs in Lori’s pond and asked if they could come back fishing!  They've got 3 orange and one black goldfish in the pond.  The kids were a breath of fresh air.  Poor Steve was going to die when Mary thought she was picking up a seashell by the pond which turned out to be bird poop!  With a quick trip to the bathroom all was well.

At 11 AM, Ray led the group on a back-roads tour through Whately, Conway, and Shelburne, arriving at the South Deerfield Rod & Gun Club.  On the tour, we passed Bill and Camille Cosby’s home in Shelburne, but sadly to say, we were not invited in.

Lori made a few announcements including an invitation to the Southampton Memorial Day Parade.  Keith Korbut reminded members to call the Palmer House for the Hildene meet reservations.  While Ben and I were credited with being hosts of this meet, the majority of the work was done by Lori and Ray Baronas.  Our thanks go to Lori and Ray for all their help to make this a successful and enjoyable day.

While we were under a very large pavilion, the cold, damp and windy conditions failed to spoil our enjoyment of great food and the fellowship of all our friends.  Just about the time everyone was preparing to leave, Mother Nature decided to let the sun peek out again at least for a couple of hours.  We hope that our members arrived home prior to the short, but vicious hail and windstorm that hit our area around 5 PM.
